Position Summary:
The Certified Pharmacy Technician plays a crucial role in supporting pharmacists by receiving, reviewing, compounding, and dispensing medications. All activities are conducted under the supervision of a licensed pharmacist.
Key Responsibilities:
- Accurately receives and transcribes orders from healthcare providers under pharmacist supervision, ensuring timely processing of prescriptions to meet patient needs.
- Facilitates the training of new staff, providing guidance on job-specific tasks.
- Assists in Medication Therapy Management, Medsync, and various clinical outreach initiatives.
- Selects and prepares medications (oral, topical, controlled substances, etc.) as prescribed by a physician, under the oversight of a licensed pharmacist.
- Prepares medications for collection, delivery, or shipping, and manages the return of unpurchased medications to inventory.
- Addresses patient payment issues (prior authorization, patient assistance, etc.), processes prescription sales, and accurately handles cash and other transactions.
- Responds to customer inquiries regarding pharmacy services that do not necessitate a pharmacist's professional judgment.
- Operates automated dispensing technology to ensure the correct medications are supplied according to pharmacist and physician directives.
- Manages inventory by ordering, receiving, restocking, and rotating supplies, while contributing to expiration date oversight.
- Participates in process improvement initiatives.
Additional Information:
Education Requirements:
- No specific educational requirements, provided other qualifications are met.
Licensure/Certification Requirements:
- Must be registered with the NC Board of Pharmacy unless enrolled in a PharmD program.
Certification as a Pharmacy Technician (CPhT) from PTCB or ExCPT from NHA is required unless enrolled in a PharmD program.
Professional Experience Requirements:
- Previous experience as a pharmacy technician is preferred.
