Overview
The Senior Media Systems Engineer plays a crucial role in the strategic planning, execution, and ongoing support of LAIKA's media technology and services. This position encompasses the oversight of technology and services across various media environments, including editorial suites, screening rooms, and post-production systems.

Key Responsibilities
  • Oversee the installation and maintenance of all editorial hardware and software systems, such as Avid Media Composer, Avid Pro Tools, and Avid Nexis Enterprise.
  • Develop and sustain the production color management system, establishing calibration and quality control standards for various viewing environments.
  • Manage high-resolution playback servers, projection systems, cabling, video routing, and audio mixing equipment.
  • Stay informed on the latest advancements in third-party systems and best practices within the media engineering sector.
  • Collaborate with the Lead Engineer to define technical standards and workflows, while independently managing significant installations and upgrades.
  • Work alongside software developers to create tailored software solutions for departments reliant on media engineering technology.
  • Provide necessary training and support to users of media engineering systems.
  • Design and maintain audiovisual systems for conference and review rooms.
Qualifications
  • Minimum of 5 years of relevant media or engineering experience in a professional environment, including at least 3 years focused on audio-video integration and design.
  • 5+ years of experience in feature film or commercial post-production as an editor, engineer, or media technician.
  • Preferred certifications include Avid Media Composer and Avid NEXIS Support ACSR.
  • Extensive experience in large-scale installation and support of professional video post-production technologies and workflows.
  • Advanced knowledge of various video conferencing technologies.
  • Understanding of color theory, calibration hardware, and modern streaming technologies.
  • Familiarity with Linux, Mac, and Windows systems administration, as well as network architecture and security concepts.
  • Strong grasp of audio and video over IP protocols.
  • Proven ability to prioritize and manage technical projects to completion.
  • Able to work both independently and collaboratively, utilizing effective communication skills to organize complex projects.
Physical Requirements and Work Environment

  • Physical requirements: The employee must be able to walk, stand, sit, operate standard office equipment, reach with hands and arms, balance, stoop, and communicate effectively. The employee should be able to lift and/or move up to 45 pounds and possess vision capabilities including close and distance vision.
  • Work environment: The employee works in typical office conditions with exposure to variable indoor temperatures and generally quiet to moderate noise levels.
