Site Safety & Health Officer (SSHO)
- Minimum of five years of experience in Safety Management, ideally within the construction sector
- 30-hour OSHA certification required.
- Current First Aid/CPR/AED certification necessary.
- Completion of eight hours of formal Safety & Health related training annually for the past five years, with certifications available in PDF format and searchable.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES include, but are not limited to:
- Support project leaders by recommending safe work practices during preplanning and training; develop jobsite safety protocols.
- Engage in morning project meetings and initial project discussions.
- Conduct thorough on-site safety evaluations as part of an ongoing monitoring strategy.
- Perform daily jobsite inspections, documenting all safety infractions or hazardous conditions; ensure immediate corrective actions are taken and verify that changes have been implemented.
- Maintain regular communication with Superintendents, Foremen, and craft workers regarding observed safety practices, providing constructive feedback.
- Provide on-the-job training for project personnel, including toolbox talks, individual discussions, and spontaneous group meetings when specific instructions are necessary.
- Assist the Superintendent in managing the Weekly Jobsite and Equipment Safety Checklists, maintaining an updated list of safety deficiencies for discussion in safety meetings.
- Ensure that Incident Reporting and Investigations are conducted, and may accompany injured personnel for medical evaluation and treatment.
- Implement the Substance Abuse Policy on the project, adhering to established protocols.
- Guide project management in advising personnel on safety requirements specific to the project.
- Occasionally accompany USACE representatives during safety, health, and insurance inspections of the project.
- Provide information and support to project and corporate personnel in preparing appeals for potential safety violations or citations.
- Coordinate safety initiatives with subcontractors.
- Assist the Superintendent in investigating incidents of property damage and personal injuries.
- Organize and schedule crew training for various mandatory courses, including first aid and other necessary training.
- Develop and communicate the job-specific Emergency Management Plan to all project personnel during orientation.
- Ensure adherence to contractual safety obligations.
- Maintain comprehensive safety files and records.
- Guarantee that company policies and procedures are consistently understood and applied.
- With experience and advancement, the SSHO will become a strong proponent of the company’s safety culture among the workforce.
- Perform additional tasks as assigned by Project Leads, Safety Manager, or Safety Director.
- Commit to practicing safe work standards and fostering an Incident and Injury Free work environment as a condition of employment.
SPECIFIC EMPLOYMENT CONDITIONS:
- Travel may be necessary.
- Must be fit for duty.
- Some projects may require US Government security clearance.
This is a Full-Time Salary Position.
