Position Overview:

The Patient Access Coordinator is responsible for ensuring precise and comprehensive registration for each patient encounter. This role involves gathering essential demographic and financial information, as well as securing necessary signatures for compliant billing processes. The Coordinator will collect patient liabilities prior to or at the time of service, in accordance with the patient's insurance plan. Interactions will be conducted in a customer-centric and empathetic manner to address patient needs effectively.

Qualifications:

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
Familiarity with standard equipment utilized in the execution of essential job functions.

SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE:
Minimum typing speed of 40 words per minute with accuracy.
Professional demeanor with the ability to write, read, comprehend, and communicate fluently in English.
Basic proficiency in computer applications including word processing, spreadsheets, email, and web browsing.
Capability to manage multiple tasks efficiently to ensure smooth patient flow and scheduling.
Strong communication skills to collaborate effectively with the Patient Access Manager, Patient Access Supervisor, Physicians, and other departments within Carle Health.

Key Responsibilities:

Registration and Data Accuracy:
Engage with patients or their legal representatives to collect and input accurate demographic and insurance information.
Schedule and register patients while adhering to compliance standards.
Collect complete and compliant data from patients or guarantors.
Follow established policies and procedures to optimize financial performance.
Utilize tools such as real-time eligibility responses and online resources to verify patient eligibility.
Communicate patient benefit information clearly and follow collection protocols.
Implement downtime procedures to maintain data integrity.

Customer Service Excellence:

Provide exceptional customer service to all patients and visitors, ensuring a positive experience.
Handle telephone inquiries professionally, screening and routing calls as necessary.

Financial Services and Billing:
Understand policies related to self-pay or underinsured patients and refer them to appropriate teams.
Ensure accuracy in data collection by addressing registration errors as needed.
Familiarize with authorization and medical necessity requirements.
Utilize standardized tools to identify and rectify missing information.
Maintain financial integrity in the billing system through accurate reconciliation of collections.
Use estimate tools within EPIC to present financial liabilities accurately.
Process financial liability collections professionally and facilitate payment arrangements.

Collaboration and Teamwork:
Contribute to departmental goals by participating in meetings and performance improvement initiatives.
Be proactive in assisting colleagues and adapting to coverage needs across registration areas.
Support new team members during their training process.
Foster teamwork by collaborating effectively and supporting team decisions.
