Job Title: Emergency Medical Technician

Join Inova Health System as an Emergency Medical Technician in our Pediatric Emergency Department at the Inova Fairfax Medical Campus.

Job Summary:

We are seeking a skilled Emergency Medical Technician to join our team. The successful candidate will be responsible for placing patients on continuous cardiac monitoring, collecting and documenting patient vital signs data, and registering patients accurately and efficiently.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Place patients on continuous cardiac monitoring while collecting and documenting patient vital signs data.
  • Register patients accurately and efficiently to ensure database integrity and facilitate claims processing.
  • Request prior electrocardiograms for Medical Director review, as appropriate, and follow medical standard operating procedures for patient intervention.
  • Provide concise documentation of all procedures and therapies in patients' medical records.
  • Demonstrate correct stabilization and immobilization of spine and proper fitting of splints for extremities.
  • Assist with patient transport for testing, admission/discharge, interfacility, and aeromedical transport (per policy of Operating Unit).
  • Collect patient specimens following department/facility policies and procedures.
  • Maintain inventory of equipment and supplies to optimize delivery of patient care and treatment.
  • Obtain 12 lead ECG per physician order and provide ECG to physician for review immediately upon completion.
  • Review Medical Director orders as related to disease state and monitor and report patients' progress towards expected outcomes and deviations to Registered Nurse.
  • Provide wound care according to department clinical practice standards and act as a resource to physicians and nurses to provide patients with optimum care.
Requirements:
  • EMT related experience preferred.
  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • BLS and EMT-B certification; must either be active on the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians (NREMT) or possess a current Virginia EMT License/Certification.
  • Able to read, write, speak, and understand English.
  • Computer skills.
Training:

Candidate must be able to attend six week training orientation upon hire.
