About the Role

The Directors Guild of America (DGA) is seeking a highly skilled Labor Attorney to join its Legal Department. As a key member of the team, you will be responsible for enforcing the DGA's collective bargaining agreements through arbitration, researching and analyzing complex labor law issues, and providing guidance to various departments within the organization.

Key Responsibilities
  • Enforce Collective Bargaining Agreements: Utilize your expertise in labor law to enforce the DGA's collective bargaining agreements through arbitration, ensuring that the rights of DGA members are protected.
  • Research and Analysis: Conduct thorough research and analysis of complex labor law issues, preparing memos and reports to inform the DGA's decision-making process.
  • Guidance and Support: Provide guidance and support to various departments within the DGA, including the Executive Team, on labor law-related matters.
  • Transactional Documents: Assist in drafting and reviewing agreements and transactional documents related to projects produced under DGA collective bargaining agreements.
  • Expertise and Knowledge: Establish expertise in labor law issues and stay up-to-date on the latest developments in the entertainment industry.
Requirements
  • J.D. and California Bar Admission: A Juris Doctor degree and admission to the California Bar are required.
  • Excellent Communication Skills: Possess excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to communicate complex ideas clearly and effectively.
  • Collaboration and Prioritization: Demonstrate the ability to work collaboratively with others, prioritize multiple projects, and exercise good judgment.
  • Labor Law Knowledge: Have a basic understanding of labor law and the ability to apply it in a practical setting.
  • Arbitration Experience: Possess basic familiarity with the arbitration process and the ability to navigate it effectively.
  • Research Skills: Be able to probe multiple sources of information via various research tools, including Westlaw.
  • Passion for Organized Labor: Demonstrate a passion for organized labor and a commitment to the DGA's mission.
Preferred Qualifications
  • 1-5 Years of Labor Law Experience: One to five years of experience practicing labor law, with a focus on collective bargaining agreements and arbitration.
  • Support for the Labor Movement: Be supportive of the labor movement and committed to the principles of collective bargaining.
Compensation and Benefits

The DGA offers an excellent benefits package, including employer-provided health benefits, a defined benefit pension plan, and a 401(k) plan. The salary range for this position is $100,000 to $130,000, conditioned upon experience and number of years of practice.
