Job Overview:
As a Tissue Preparation Specialist, you will work under general supervision to carry out both routine and specialized tasks related to the preparation of slides for microscopic examination by pathologists. This role is essential in ensuring the accuracy and quality of histological evaluations.
Location: Newtown Square, Pennsylvania
Job Type: Contract
Salary: Competitive hourly rate
Work Hours: 7 AM to 3 PM
Education: Associate Degree or equivalent experience
Key Responsibilities:
- Perform routine and specialized activities for slide preparation, adhering to established policies and procedures.
- Process and manage paperwork related to specimen accessioning and reporting.
- Ensure proper processing of tissue samples.
- Conduct embedding and microtomy for designated specimen types as directed by the Histology Manager/Supervisor.
- Prepare slides for standard Hematoxylin and Eosin staining.
- Execute coverslipping of stained slides, utilizing both manual and automated methods.
- Carry out special staining procedures with the approval of the Histology Manager/Supervisor.
- Perform routine maintenance and cleaning of laboratory equipment.
- Organize and file completed blocks and slides.
- Adhere to quality control protocols and document all related activities.
- Ensure compliance with all safety, quality control, and regulatory standards.
- Maintain a clean and organized workspace.
- Undertake additional duties as assigned by the supervisor.
Qualifications:
- Associate or Science degree with at least one year of relevant experience within the last decade, or a high school diploma with five years of full-time experience as a Histotechnician within the last ten years.
- Certification as HT (ASCP) or HTL (ASCP) is required.
- Experience in dermatopathology is highly preferred.
