Histotechnologist I

Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Histotechnologist I to join our team at Quest Diagnostics Incorporated. As a Histotechnologist I, you will play a critical role in preparing slides for microscopic evaluation by pathologists, ensuring the highest level of quality and accuracy in our laboratory results.

Key Responsibilities

• Prepare solutions and reagents for special stain procedures, including manual and automated methods.
• Obtain, verify, and validate tissue used in special stains, ensuring compliance with laboratory policies and procedures.
• Perform all special stain procedures, including manual and automated methods, with a focus on quality and accuracy.
• May prepare solutions and reagents for IHC procedures, and obtain, verify, and validate control material used in IHC procedures.
• May perform IHC testing, including gross tissue examination, if meets personnel qualifications set forth by the 1988 CLIA CFR 493.1489 and the corporate Minimum Qualifications for Non-Pathologist Performing Gross Tissue Examinations SOP.
• Perform routine maintenance and cleaning of equipment, troubleshoot minor equipment failures, and document remedial actions.
• Provide training and guidance to Histotechnicians, students, and lab aides, ensuring a high level of competence and confidence in laboratory procedures.
• Perform limited QA/QC functions, identify issues requiring troubleshooting, and ensure compliance with laboratory's quality control policies.
• Ensure all corporate safety, quality control, and quality assurance standards are met, and compliance with all local, federal, CLIA, and CAP regulations.

Requirements

• AS degree or HT (ASCP) with equivalent training and experience.
• 1 year Histology experience.
• Current state licensure, if applicable.
• Any state-specific certification and/or registration requirements.
• Meet all requirements as outlined in corporate Policy for Minimum Qualifications for Histotechnician and Histology Supervisor.
• If performing Immunohistochemistry testing, meet all requirements as outlined in corporate Minimum Qualifications for Personnel Performing Immunohistochemistry Testing SOP.

Preferred Qualifications

• BS degree.
• HTL (ASCP).
• Graduate of a NAACLS accredited Histotechnology program.
• 3 years of histopathology experience.
• Immunohistochemistry experience.

Physical and Mental Requirements

• The normal performance of duties may require lifting and carrying objects, with a focus on manual dexterity and attention to detail.
• Ability to stand and work at the bench for long periods of time, with frequent walking and/or standing.
