POSITION SUMMARY:
The Clinical Support Nurse (CSN) plays a pivotal role in delivering expert guidance to Patient Care Services Staff during intricate clinical scenarios. This position is dedicated to educating and empowering staff to acquire essential patient care competencies that necessitate further training, potential clinical certification, and are not readily available through unit-specific training. Additionally, the CSN is responsible for direct patient care in designated complex situations.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Facilitate the development of clinical skills among staff and assist in resolving complex patient care challenges.
2. Instruct and support staff in the initiation and management of intravascular therapy.
3. Deliver direct care in selected intricate patient care scenarios.
4. Engage in effective negotiation to achieve consensus with staff and management.
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:
To excel in this role, candidates must successfully fulfill each essential duty as outlined in the annual competency assessment. Reasonable accommodations may be provided to enable qualified individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions of the job.
EDUCATION:
Graduation from a recognized professional nursing program is required. A Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) or active pursuit of a BSN is preferred. Candidates must possess a current RN Registration or a Limited Permit to practice in the State of New York.
EXPERIENCE:
A minimum of three years of recent acute care clinical experience in relevant patient populations is required.
COMMUNICATION SKILLS:
Effective communication with patients, family members, and colleagues is essential. Candidates should demonstrate active listening, verification, and clarification of messages, while also seeking input from others to achieve consensus. Proficiency in problem-solving, negotiation, and conflict resolution is crucial.
PROFESSIONAL SKILLS:
Responsibilities must be carried out in accordance with the highest ethical standards as defined by Albany Medical Center and the principles of the Professional Nursing Organization. Candidates should exhibit conscientiousness in record-keeping and demonstrate sound judgment in job functions and interactions. Collaboration with others is vital, and adherence to Albany Medical Center's policies and standards is expected.
REASONING ABILITY:
Ability to identify problems, gather data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions is essential. Candidates should be adept at solving practical problems and navigating various situations with limited standardization.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Regularly required to stand, walk, and use hands to handle objects. The role may involve lifting and/or moving up to 50 pounds.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
