Responsibilities

Under occasional supervision, the Campus Safety Officer performs essential law enforcement duties to uphold the enforcement of state and local regulations, as well as University policies regarding public safety and welfare. This role reports to the shift supervisor or, in their absence, the Director of Campus Police.

The officer is responsible for:
  • Conducting regular patrols of the campus to ensure safety and security.
  • Inspecting properties for security compliance.
  • Conducting room inspections as necessary.
  • Maintaining public order and safety.
  • Issuing traffic and parking citations.
  • Apprehending and detaining suspects as required.
  • Interviewing suspects and witnesses.
  • Collecting and preserving evidence from incidents.
  • Assisting victims of crimes and accidents.
  • Responding to alarms and emergency situations.

Additionally, the officer will:
  • Oversee security at the University’s main entrance, monitoring vehicles and pedestrians.
  • Provide assistance and directions to visitors.
  • Address inquiries and complaints from students and citizens.
  • Respond to medical emergencies and provide necessary assistance.
  • Prepare and submit detailed incident reports.
  • Monitor campus vehicles for compliance with parking regulations.
  • Ensure campus exterior lighting is functional and safe.
  • Assist in conducting fire drills and evacuating buildings when necessary.
  • Provide crowd management and traffic control during University events.

Qualifications

The ideal candidate will possess a high school diploma or GED equivalent, supplemented by required training and one to two years of experience in security or law enforcement, or any equivalent combination of education and experience that provides the necessary skills and knowledge. A valid Basic Law Enforcement Training (BLET) certification and a state driver’s license are mandatory.
