Safety Officer

SEPTA is seeking a highly skilled Safety Officer to join our team in the Safety Regulatory Compliance Division. As a key member of our safety team, you will be responsible for coordinating and cooperating with all levels of Authority management and collective bargaining unit employees to provide expert assistance toward identifying, assessing, and prioritizing line management's prevention of safety, health, and environmental hazards.
The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of safety regulations, including OSHA, FRA, FTA, and NFPA. You will be responsible for developing and refining safety management policies, working with the Director of Safety Regulatory Compliance and management to define safety roles and accountabilities, and supporting training and providing tools for staff to support their role as leaders in creating a culture of safety within the Authority.
You will also be responsible for facilitating two-way communication between internal and external stakeholders on SEPTA's Safety Management Policy, performance targets, federal regulations, educational programs, training, and all aspects of advancing the SMS. Additionally, you will be required to review and analyze accident data and participate in the development of corrective action plans to resolve complex safety and health issues.
To be successful in this role, you will need to have a strong understanding of union and management environment and demonstrate the ability to address health and safety matters directly to union employees. You will also need to be able to satisfy rigorous and demanding work schedules, which include non-traditional working hours, and short-term deadlines.

- Bachelor's degree in a related safety or safety engineering discipline
- 5-7 years of experience in safety, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
- Strong knowledge of safety regulations, including OSHA, FRA, FTA, and NFPA
- Ability to review and analyze accident data and participate in the development of corrective action plans
- Ability to satisfy rigorous and demanding work schedules
