Job Title: Components Lab Technician I

Join Community Blood Center as a Components Lab Technician I and be part of a team dedicated to saving lives through blood banking and transfusion medicine.

Job Summary:

We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented individual to join our laboratory team as a Components Lab Technician I. In this role, you will be responsible for preparing blood products, performing quality control, and maintaining accurate records.

Responsibilities:
  • Prepare blood products according to established procedures, including red blood cell, platelet, and plasma products.
  • Perform quality control checks on equipment and supplies to ensure accuracy and safety.
  • Update computer records and reports, and perform data entry as needed.
  • Assist in labeling and organizing frozen products, and prepare recovered plasma for shipment.
  • Perform visual inspections of blood products at each step of processing.
  • Maintain accurate and complete records, and identify problems that may adversely affect products.
  • Order, receive, and check inventory of supplies, and notify the Department Supervisor of inadequacies or surpluses.
  • Unpack and receive shipments containing donor samples, and inspect, sort, prepare, pack, and ship samples for donor testing.
  • Organize, log, store, and manage sample collections, including problem samples.
  • Respond to environmental and storage alarms, and perform corrective action when necessary.
Requirements:
  • High school education or equivalent.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Excellent customer service skills.
  • Ability to solve problems and work independently.
  • Ability to work with others.
  • Excellent organizational skills and ability to multi-task.
  • Strong attention to detail in all work processes.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • High level of interpersonal skills to handle a variety of complex issues and situations.
  • Ability to interact with individuals at all levels of the organization and customers in a helpful, courteous, and friendly manner.
  • Ability to work in a strong team environment.
  • Ability to plan and organize job tasks or resources in an efficient manner.

  • Ability to identify complex problems in a timely manner, decipher information to develop and evaluate options, and implement solutions.
  • Knowledge of a variety of software applications (Microsoft Office Suite, Excel, Outlook, EDD).
