We are constructing a new six-story surgical and patient care tower, ensuring state-of-the-art medical and surgical care for future generations.

Your Role:


The CVOR First Assistant plays a crucial role by providing specialized technical skills to assist surgeons in conducting safe and effective operations.

This position requires the ability to work independently or collaboratively with surgeons to execute surgical plans effectively.

The CVOR First Assistant is responsible for preparing and maintaining the surgical environment, performing scrubbing duties, and delivering first assistant technical functions during procedures. Additionally, this role assists the RN with patient care tasks and contributes to the training of new staff while serving as a resource within the department.

Expertise in endoscopic or open-procedure intraoperative harvesting of the saphenous vein is essential.


Your Contributions to the Team:
Confirm the surgical procedures to be performed.
Identify specific equipment required for each surgical case.
Review case loads and prepare for upcoming surgical procedures.
Examine preference cards to verify procedures and special requirements, participating in Universal Protocol steps, including time-outs.
Select and place diagnostic tests as necessary.
Assist in patient positioning, familiar with each surgeon's preferences and required equipment.
Perform operative shave prep, scrubbing, or other patient care tasks as assigned by the RN.

Qualifications:

Essential Skills and Experience:
High School diploma or equivalent.
Completion of a Certified Surgical Assisting Program or certification from:
- National Board of Surgical Technician and Surgical Assistant (NBSTA) or
- American Board of Surgical Assistant (ABSA) or
- National Commission for the Certification of Surgical Assistant (NCCSA)
American Heart Association BLS certification.
Endoscopic Saphenous Vein Harvesting certification sanctioned by the American College of Surgeons (to be obtained within two years of hire).
