Job Summary

Kennedy Services is seeking a detail-oriented Custodian to support the return of in-person learning in public schools throughout Anne Arundel County. This is a second-shift position, working from 2:30 PM to 11:00 PM.

Key Responsibilities
  • Cleaning and Sanitation: Clean classrooms, offices, gymnasiums, halls, and stairs; clean, sanitize, and supply restrooms and locker rooms (where included in facility).
  • Waste Management: Collect trash and recyclable materials from classrooms, shops, offices, restrooms, and grounds; transport and dispose in proper containers.
  • Floor Care: Sweep, dry mop, and wet mop floors; operate powered equipment to scrub and buff floors; vacuum; spot clean and apply & extract cleaning solutions to carpeting.
  • Window and Surface Cleaning: Wash windows, display cases, walls, woodwork, and venetian blinds; clean and maintain a variety of other surfaces, such as baseboards, doors, and trim, drinking fountains.
  • Security and Maintenance: Check all door locks and window latches; secure building after end of shift and set alarm; make minor repairs to building and equipment, such as replacing light bulbs and ceiling tiles, and perform other light preventive maintenance tasks.
  • Supply Management: Assist with delivering and unloading instructional and custodial supplies from delivery trucks as needed, deliver to storage or other facility locations as instructed.
  • Grounds Maintenance: Operate power equipment to cut grass; trim shrubbery, rake, and bag leaves as required; clear snow and ice from walkways; sand walkways, steps, and landings to provide a safe passageway.
Requirements
  • Background and Fingerprinting: Successful completion of the background and fingerprinting process (external candidates only).
  • Education: High School Diploma or GED certificate preferred.
  • Communication: Must be able to understand and follow oral and written instructions provided in English.
  • Operational Skills: Ability to operate custodial and grounds care equipment.
  • Knowledge and Experience: Demonstrated knowledge of the methods and practices of custodial work.
  • Availability: Ability to work overtime or weekends and respond to call to work in advance of regular hours for weather events and other emergency situations.
  • Transportation: Must have reliable transportation.
