Position Overview:

The Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS) engages in advanced nursing practices to provide comprehensive care to patients, facilitating their journey towards optimal physical, emotional, and social well-being.

This role is governed by the Nurse Practice Act, relevant Administrative Codes, and the professional standards of nursing practice, alongside the policies and procedures of Rogers Behavioral Health.

The CNS collaborates with the healthcare team to ensure that patient care is tailored to individual needs and treatment objectives.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Conduct initial evaluations and document findings as mandated.
  2. Gather, record, and assess critical data for patient admission in accordance with hospital protocols, including:
  • Identifying patient strengths and limitations relevant to health objectives.
  • Considering cultural, spiritual, and ethnic influences on the patient's treatment journey.
  • Monitoring medication adherence, reactions, and schedules.
  • Collecting age-specific information pertinent to the patient's care.
Engage with the patient's support network (family, friends) during assessments. Document interactions between patients and their support systems as necessary. Advocate for patient rights and ensure they are informed about their care. Assist in the patient orientation process. Adhere to hospital policies regarding safety and patient admission procedures. Remain attuned to the stressors faced by patients and their families upon admission. Participate in the development and adjustment of the patient's care plan. Evaluate treatment plans and contribute to multidisciplinary care conferences. Formulate and revise care plans with clear, achievable goals. Review treatment plans regularly to reflect changes in patient status. Identify and document significant changes in patient condition and intervene as necessary. Administer medications accurately and safely, ensuring compliance with established protocols. Monitor for potential adverse reactions and educate patients about their medications. Recognize and address any signs of patient distress or instability. Implement educational interventions tailored to the patient's and family's needs. Document all patient interactions and care activities thoroughly. Organize care activities based on patient priorities and unit needs. Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements during patient admissions and transfers. Maintain high standards of nursing practice and patient care. Participate in ongoing education and training to enhance clinical skills. Contribute to the development of unit standards and participate in quality improvement initiatives. Assume leadership responsibilities as needed, coordinating unit activities and managing patient care assignments. Engage in professional development and seek opportunities for growth within the organization.

Qualifications:

A Bachelor's degree in nursing (BSN) is preferred. Candidates must hold a valid nursing license in good standing. CPR certification is required within a specified timeframe of employment. Previous experience in psychiatric nursing is advantageous.
