Job Summary

Key Responsibilities
  • Cardiopulmonary Assessment: Perform thorough clinical assessments of the cardiopulmonary system with a high degree of accuracy.
  • Respiratory Therapeutic Interventions: Administer advanced respiratory therapeutic interventions, including heliox, nitric oxide, and chest wall oscillation, with moderate proficiency and occasional supervision.
  • Mechanical Ventilation: Establish and manage basic mechanical ventilation with high proficiency and minimal supervision, and use complex forms of mechanical ventilation with moderate proficiency and occasional supervision.
  • Weaning Mechanics: Perform weaning mechanics as ordered with high proficiency in more than 90 percent of ventilator patients cared for.
  • Therapeutic Planning: Formulate a plan of care for most patients based on patient diagnostics data, response to therapy, and physiologic profiles.
  • Communication: Communicate accurate therapeutic and patient information with healthcare team members on care plans and provide educational training to patients and/or family members as appropriate.
Requirements
  • Certification: Registered Respiratory Therapist - Adult Critical Care / Basic Life Support; Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) or more than 10 years of experience as a Certified Respiratory Therapist as defined by the National Board of Respiratory Care (NBRC); Advanced Certifications (ACLS, PALS or NRP) or must obtain within one year from date or hire.
  • Licensure: Licensed Respiratory Therapist Upon Start Licensed in the Commonwealth of Virginia as a Respiratory Therapist.
  • Experience: Six months in a critical care environment or one or more years of specialized training in advanced diagnostics/pulmonary rehabilitation as a practicing Respiratory Therapist.
  • Education: Respiratory Therapy Graduate of an accredited CoARC (The Commission on Accreditation for Respiratory Care) respiratory care program.
