Job Title: ED Technician/EMT

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced ED Technician/EMT to join our team at Northern Light Eastern Maine Medical Center. As a key member of our Emergency Department, you will play a vital role in providing high-quality patient care and supporting our team of healthcare professionals.

Job Summary:

The ED Technician/EMT will be responsible for carrying out direct and supportive patient care under the direction of licensed care providers. This includes greeting patients and visitors, answering telephones, preparing rooms, and transporting specimens. The successful candidate will have a strong understanding of emergency medical procedures and be able to work effectively in a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities:
  • Independently manages ESI Level 4 & 5 patients after triage.
  • Collaboratively assists the RN for ESI Level 1-3.
  • Performs a standard patient assessment.
  • May initiate standing orders for adult patients.
  • Re-assesses patient at appropriate intervals.
  • Reports relevant patient status changes to the co-assigned RN or Emergency Physician/PA.
  • Works collaboratively with all ED team members.
  • Oxygen administration.
  • Cardiac Monitoring.
  • 12 Lead ECG acquisition.
  • Finger Stick Blood Glucose Monitoring.
  • IV placement.
  • Ultrasound IV placement.
  • IV, IM, SC, IN, & PO medications.
  • IV Fluid administration.
  • Phlebotomy.
  • Foley Catheter Placement.
  • CPR.
  • BLS ventilation.
  • Splinting.
  • Bleeding control.
  • Wound Care.
  • Specimen collection/swabs.
  • Personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • Cervical Spine Precautions/management/collar placement.
  • Backboard usage.
  • Orthopedic traction splint placement (HARE).
  • Answering radio/phone for EMS reports.
  • In addition to the above, the ED Paramedic may perform duties/procedures within their scope of practice WITH A PHYSICIAN AT THE BEDSIDE as follows:
  • Advanced Airway placement (ETT, BIAD).
  • Endotracheal Intubation with Video Laryngoscopy.
  • Transcutaneous pacing.
  • Defibrillation.
  • Cardioversion.
  • Needle Chest Decompression.
  • STAT/Sedating Medication Administration within scope of practice.
Requirements:
  • Must hold an active Maine EMS License.
  • Must hold current CPR, ACLS, PALS.
  • 3+ years of relative work experience required.
  • Minimum of 3 years full time EMS experience required at Paramedic level.
  • ArithmeticMedical Math as relevant to scope of practice.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Electronic medical record software.
