The candidate will also be knowledgeable about federal 340B program requirements and will optimize procurement strategies while adhering to regulatory standards. Responsibilities include conducting patient medication history interviews and maintaining accurate electronic health records (EHR). The individual must demonstrate sound judgment and clinical skills to support the patient's care plan based on their diagnosis. Compliance with all local, state, and federal regulations is essential to ensure privacy and safety. The position may also serve as a primary trainer and competency administrator for various tasks.

Key Responsibilities:

Pharmaceutical Services:

  • Facilitates pharmaceutical services, including drug preparation, distribution, inventory management, quality assurance, and documentation as per established policies.
  • Handles billing, pricing, and record-keeping to meet regulatory standards.
  • Maintains comprehensive records of drug distribution and collaborates with suppliers for drug requisition or returns.
  • Accurately interprets and dispenses medication orders under pharmacist supervision.
  • Mentors colleagues and fosters a supportive learning environment.
  • Addresses technical issues related to automated dispensing systems and pharmacy databases.
  • Conducts final medication checks in accordance with California Board of Pharmacy regulations.
  • May assist with clinical trial insurance verifications and authorizations.
  • Obtains prior authorizations for medical and pharmacy services.
  • Reviews Electronic Medical Records (EMR) to ensure coding accuracy and compliance with government payor guidelines.
  • Provides financial counseling to patients regarding insurance benefits and out-of-pocket costs.
  • Assists patients in accessing financial aid programs for medications and treatments.

Clerical Duties:

  • Performs general clerical tasks, including answering calls and updating patient information.
  • Ensures accurate documentation related to patient care in medical and departmental records.

Safety and Compliance:

  • Participates in quality improvement initiatives and updates safety manuals.
  • Maintains a clean and safe working environment in accordance with policies and regulations.
  • Adheres to infection control protocols to protect patients and staff.

Qualifications:

Education:
Graduate from an accredited Pharmacy Technician program. Advanced training in core inpatient pharmacy technician responsibilities is preferred.

Certification & Licensure:
Registered Pharmacy Technician or Certified Pharmacy Technician.

Experience:
A minimum of 4 years of relevant experience is required.

Skills:
Strong knowledge of medical terminology, pharmaceutical calculations, and regulations. Excellent communication skills and the ability to work independently and collaboratively. Proficiency in computer applications related to pharmacy operations.
