Description:

The Preservation Society of Newport County seeks a part-time Historic Property Maintenance Specialist. This role involves maintaining the cleanliness and order of historic properties, ensuring they are presentable for public visits. The work schedule is flexible, up to 25 hours per week, with the possibility of up to 40 hours per week in season. Some weekend days are required, and occasional special events may require work outside of regular hours.

Responsibilities:

  • Follow a scheduled routine to ensure primary cleaning duties are completed in time for the property to open to the public.
  • Operate the alarm system and lights daily in preparation for site opening and closing.
  • Clean glass surfaces and remove dust from floors, surfaces, and furniture daily.
  • Maintain the movement of furniture or other historic artifacts when directed and under the supervision of a Site Supervisor.
  • Clean and buff floors periodically, which may involve the use of wax or other chemical compounds, as directed.
  • Open and close windows as directed and replace light bulbs.
  • Collect trash, vacuum as necessary, clean, and monitor and restock bathrooms.
  • Sweep and remove trash, leaves, and snow from interior and exterior walkways and entrances, which may require the use of a blowing machine for leaf and/or snow removal.
  • Check the conditions of the grounds of assigned properties and set up and dismantle traffic ropes and signage as needed.
  • Perform other related duties as required or directed.

Requirements:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent with previous housekeeping experience preferred.
  • Strong self-starter with the ability to work independently, multi-task, and establish priorities.
  • Work from verbal and written instructions, able to read and comprehend simple instructions.
  • Good communication skills and ability to maintain flexible behavior.
  • Knowledge of cleaning products, equipment, and safety procedures.
  • Attention to detail and a strong work ethic.
  • Possess a driver's license with a clean record.
  • Willingness to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends, as needed.
  • Flexibility to work in other locations.
  • Follow prescribed safety and health rules, regulations, and practices.
  • Must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.

Salary: $16.75 per hour
