Position Overview

The Float Pool RN role offers a premium of $5.00 per hour, providing an opportunity to work in a dynamic environment with a variety of patient populations.

Shift Details

This is a full-time position with rotating shifts, including both day and night schedules. The typical work pattern consists of three 12-hour shifts per week, with varying weekend requirements.

Role Responsibilities

The Nursing Float Pool team is responsible for providing comprehensive patient care across various units, including Medical Surgical, Critical Care, and Pediatric settings. As a member of a multidisciplinary team, you will:

  • Participate in patient rounds and collaborate with healthcare professionals.
  • Manage patient ratios averaging 1:3 to 1:6, depending on the unit's acuity.
  • Document assessments, plan of care, and evaluate patient status.
  • Educate patients and families in accordance with nursing care plans.
Qualifications

Ideal candidates will possess a strong passion for teamwork, accountability, and family-centered care. All registered nurses without a Bachelor's degree in Nursing are required to enroll in a BSN program within two years of employment and complete it within five years.

Licensure

Current registration with the North Carolina State Board of Nursing as a registered professional nurse or compact RN licensure to practice in North Carolina is required.

Training and Development

Paid training averages four weeks for experienced RNs and up to 14 weeks for new graduates, depending on experience level. Duke University Health System is committed to providing ongoing learning and development opportunities.
