Purpose and Scope
This position focuses on Electrical System Engineering, specifically handling various fire alarm and suppression system engineering tasks throughout project development, design, operations, installation, and maintenance of systems located at NASA's Kennedy Space Center, Florida. The systems are integrated within facilities such as space flight hardware processing centers, launch pad support structures, and various administrative and industrial buildings.
Key Responsibilities:
System Specific:
- Demonstrate a robust understanding of fire alarm and suppression system design, operation, and maintenance, alongside NFPA code compliance.
Maintenance:
- Update and add asset information in the Maximo database for assigned equipment per the Maintenance Action Request (MAR) process.
- Develop and maintain job plans and preventive maintenance schedules for assigned equipment in line with EGS Operations and industry standards.
- Address and justify preventive maintenance deferrals for assigned equipment.
- Conduct site visits to diagnose system issues, propose solutions, and recommend actions to restore systems.
- Assist shop technicians in troubleshooting equipment-related issues as necessary.
- Provide technical expertise for anomalies as they arise and document failure incidents regarding assigned equipment.
- Prepare Technical Anomaly reports and presentations for the Engineering Review Board.
Integrated Operations Support:
- Coordinate NASA and customer-related mission activities to support the EGS customer launch schedule, including launch site test plan development and coordination with EGS Solumina documents.
- Participate in console operations during test and launch activities as required for assigned systems supporting launch and processing facilities.
Readiness:
- Actively engage in System Health and Readiness Program (SHARP) teams.
- Develop and present mission-related presentations to NASA and/or EGS customers as needed to communicate support readiness or concerns.
- Conduct readiness assessments of assigned equipment and systems.
Project Support:
- Collaborate closely with requesters, customers, and various engineering, logistics, financial, and program management teams to define system specifications and requirements.
- Serve as a direct liaison with internal and external customers at all levels from concept through final design and commissioning activities.
- Assist in the development of technical proposals and statements of work, providing feedback on technical content and scope of work.
- Create task order requirements for NASA to complete Operations & Maintenance Documentation (OMD) updates within specified timelines.
- Effectively communicate with CAD drafters, Design Engineers, or shop personnel through written or verbal means.
Other Responsibilities:
- Interpret and provide guidance for assigned equipment using schematic drawings.
- Develop, maintain, and produce technical documentation and system specifications.
- Ensure compliance with engineering documentation standards and testing procedures.
- Conduct site visits and experimental investigations to analyze engineering challenges, propose solutions, and offer recommendations.
- Assess assigned systems for necessary upgrades to meet new code requirements or enhance operations.
- Perform additional duties as assigned or requested.
Education and Experience Requirements:
- Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field with 15+ years of relevant experience or equivalent.
- NICET Level III certification in Fire Alarm Systems, Inspection and Testing of Fire Alarm Systems, or Special Hazard Systems is preferred.
- NFPA certification as a Certified Fire Protection Specialist and Certified Fire Plan Examiner is preferred.
- Factory training on fire alarm hardware, software, and programming is preferred.
- Knowledge and experience with Simplex, Siemens, Xtralis, and AES mesh networks are strongly preferred.
- Strong communication and analytical skills are essential.
Preferred Qualifications:
- May require limited travel and the ability to obtain and maintain a Security Clearance.
Other Requirements:
- Must be a U.S. citizen and able to obtain and maintain required clearances as needed.
- Proficiency in English, both verbal and written, is essential.
- Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license.
Work Environment and Physical Demands:
This role involves standard office work with no unusual hazards, occasional lifting of up to 20 pounds, and continuous use of computer terminals. Fieldwork may include site walk-downs in support of design projects and troubleshooting. Safety training and Personal Protective Equipment are provided.
