We are seeking a skilled Laboratory Assistant to join our team at MercyOne Siouxland Medical Center. As a Laboratory Assistant, you will play a critical role in executing assigned phlebotomy, specimen processing, rapid testing, and Point-of-Care (POC) testing laboratory functions.
Key Responsibilities- Execute phlebotomy, specimen processing, and POC testing laboratory functions under limited supervision and/or according to established policy and procedure.
- Serve as the laboratory and hospital liaison to patients, clients, physicians, and staff members, adhering to hospital and laboratory policy and procedure related to blood-borne pathogens and safety.
- Be proficient in the appropriate designated use of Laboratory Information System, including department order entry, specimen log-in, modify collections, reprint labels, printing collection lists, and other basic computer functions.
- Always follow established positive patient identification procedures prior to the collection of patient samples.
- Label samples in compliance with hospital and established laboratory policy and procedure.
- Perform point-of-care (POC) glucose testing, ACT testing, and GEM ABG's in accordance with written clinical laboratory policy and procedure.
- Receive, log, and verify receipt of all specimen types in the laboratory according to laboratory policy and procedure, and distribute those specimens appropriately to the designated testing areas.
- High School Diploma or Equivalent
- ASCP Certification as a Clinical Laboratory Phlebotomist or equivalent
- Ability to work rotating shifts, weekends, and holidays, and complete educational requirements as required to maintain ASCP certification
