Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Histology Technician 1 to join our team at Inova Health System. As a key member of our histology laboratory, you will be responsible for preparing tissue samples for pathological examination, ensuring accurate and timely completion of testing procedures, and maintaining proper records in accordance with established policies and regulations.

Key Responsibilities
  • Tissue Preparation: Cut, stain, and prepare tissue samples for pathological examination, adhering to standard operating procedures.
  • Quality Control: Embed tissue samples according to standard operating procedures, ensuring quality cassettes and slides are produced.
  • Communication: Communicate STAT cases, discrepancies, and assist with continuous workflow to ensure seamless laboratory operations.
  • Documentation: Maintain accurate documentation, including variance forms, process specimen logs, and equipment maintenance logs.
  • Continuing Education: Meet continuing education requirements to maintain certification(s) or as required by the department.
Requirements
  • Education: High school diploma equivalent.
  • Experience: 1 year of histology tech experience or successful progression/productivity for 1 year in the Inova Histology Tech Trainee position or Inova HT/HTL program graduate eligible for ASCP certification.
  • Certification: ASCP HT/HTL certification is not required with 1 year histology tech or Inova Histology Tech Trainee position experience.
