The Histology Technician plays a crucial role in the preparation of tissue samples for examination by the Pathologist. This position requires the technician to efficiently prioritize and execute testing procedures while ensuring meticulous record-keeping in line with established protocols and regulations.
Key Responsibilities- Perform cutting, staining, and preparation of tissue samples.
- Maintain accurate documentation, including variance forms and equipment maintenance logs.
- Recognize and orient different gross tissue structures for accurate embedding.
- Communicate effectively regarding STAT cases and discrepancies to support workflow.
- Embed 35 – 40 quality cassettes and cut 20 – 25 quality slides per hour.
- Fulfill continuing education requirements to uphold certifications.
- Adhere to standard operating procedures to ensure the quality of slides for routine and special staining.
- Education: High School diploma or equivalent.
- Experience: Minimum of 1 year as a Histology Technician or completion of the Inova Histology Tech Trainee program.
- Certification: ASCP HT/HTL certification is preferred but not mandatory for candidates with relevant experience.
