About the Role

Hackensack Meridian Health is seeking a skilled Respiratory Therapist to join our team. As a Respiratory Therapist, you will play a critical role in providing high-quality patient care and contributing to the success of our healthcare organization.

Key Responsibilities

The successful candidate will be responsible for:

  • Assisting in the diagnosis, treatment, and management of patients with pulmonary disorders in both critical and non-critical areas.
  • Performing cardiopulmonary evaluation, monitoring, respiratory therapy treatment techniques, respiratory procedures, and patient education.
  • Administering and/or monitoring medical gases, mechanical ventilation support, artificial airway care, bronchopulmonary hygiene, pharmacologic agents related to respiratory care procedures, and cardiopulmonary rehabilitation related to respiratory care.
  • Utilizing scientific principles for the identification, prevention, remediation, research, and rehabilitation of acute or chronic cardiopulmonary dysfunction.
  • Recording all pertinent information of provided therapeutic procedures and patient response in the electronic medical record system.
  • Setting up, verifying proper function, operating, and monitoring all invasive and non-invasive respiratory equipment on patients in need of respiratory assistance.
  • Participating in the management of patients on life support systems by recommending and performing appropriate changes based on blood gas results and weaning studies.
  • Responding to and participating in all emergency and trauma codes.
  • Overseeing the clinical performance of Certified Respiratory Care Technicians to assure clinical compliance to department policies and procedures.
  • Changing and maintaining ventilators, ventilator circuits in accordance with the Infection Control Policy of the Department Policy and Procedure Manual.
  • Running quality controls on blood gas analyzers.
  • Monitoring and changing all manifolds, including but not limited to emergency oxygen, nitrous oxide, and nitrogen manifold cylinders.
  • Retrieving, cleaning, and assembling all respiratory equipment using disinfecting solutions and cleaning agents in accordance with infection control protocols.
  • Identifying the needs of the patient population served and modifying and delivering care that is specific to those needs.

Requirements

The ideal candidate will possess:

  • A graduate degree from an AMA-approved Respiratory Care program.
  • An associate degree.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of all clinical aspects of Respiratory Care.
  • A NJ Respiratory Care Practitioner License.
  • A NJ Registered Respiratory Therapist Certificate.
  • AHA Basic Health Care Life Support HCP Certification.
