Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Transmission Planning Engineer to join our team at APS (Arizona Public Service). As a key member of our Transmission Planning and Engineering department, you will play a critical role in ensuring the continued safety and reliability of our 69kV-500kV transmission system.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct a variety of transmission studies, including power flow, transient stability, short circuit, and other power system analyses.
  • Develop and apply unique solutions and applications to a broad range of technical issues and problems.
  • Prepare complex engineering plans, designs, analysis, specifications, cost estimates, evaluations, studies, technical reviews, investigations, and verifications.
  • Ensure engineering analyses, design, project control, schedule commitments, or oversight work is technically sound, cost-effective, and in compliance with established standards, codes, and regulations.
  • Interface with customers and other departments to ensure project objectives are understood and that work scope meets customer requirements, budget, and schedule.
Requirements
  • Bachelor of Science degree in an engineering discipline or related applied science discipline from an ABET accredited institution.
  • Eight (8) years working experience in Engineering-related positions.
  • Knowledgeable in power flow and transient stability studies (GE PSLF, TARA, PowerWorld, PSSE).
  • Knowledgeable in short circuit studies (Siemens CAPE, ASPEN).
  • Familiarity with the FERC pro forma Open Access Transmission Tariff.
  • Familiarity with the southwestern and WECC transmission system.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills and ability to communicate effectively with internal and external customers, outside agencies, and regulatory authorities.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with NERC Standards including MOD, TPL, CIP, FAC, PRC.
  • Knowledge of industry best practices and new developments in transmission planning and engineering.
