Job Summary

We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Early Childhood Education Assistant to join our team at the YMCA of Delaware. As a key member of our childcare staff, you will play a vital role in ensuring the health, safety, and well-being of our young participants.

Key Responsibilities
  • Supervise and Care for Children: Provide daily care for children, including diapering, toileting, feeding, and supporting their social and emotional needs.
  • Classroom Management: Supervise the children, classroom, and all activities as assigned, while exhibiting safe, healthy, and developmentally appropriate childcare practices.
  • Engage and Support Children: Encourage, engage, and support children in all classroom activities, including instructional times, meal times, transitions, and gross motor activities.
  • Positive Behavior Management: Implement positive behavior management techniques to create a nurturing and supportive environment.
  • Assist in Planning and Implementation: Assist in planning, implementing, and actively participating in daily age-appropriate classroom activities to ensure all children are provided an opportunity to learn.
  • Observation and Documentation: Assist in observing children and documenting their progress and development.
Requirements
  • Education and Experience: To meet licensing requirements, the Early Childhood Assistant Teacher must be at least 18 years of age and must meet one of the following qualifications:
  • Option 1: At least a high school degree or its equivalent and successful completion of 'Training for Early Care and Education 1' and six (6) months of experience working with children birth through second grade in a group setting.
  • Option 2: At least a high school degree with successful completion of the traditional high school's career pathway program in early childhood as recognized by the Department of Education and six (6) months of experience working with children birth through second grade in a group setting.
  • Option 3: At least a high school degree or its equivalent and successful completion of six (6) college/university credits - three (3) in early childhood education and three (3) in child development and six (6) months of experience working with children birth through second grade in a group setting.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Multi-Lingual: Ability to communicate effectively with children and families from diverse backgrounds.
  • Prior Experience: Prior experience working or volunteering with youth in a group setting.
  • Relationship Building: Ability to develop positive, authentic relationships with people from different backgrounds.
  • Flexibility: Willingness to accommodate the needs of the early childhood community and staff team.
  • Program Development: Ability to develop and present educational programs and/or workshops.
  • Influencing Others: Ability to persuade and influence others.
  • Early Childhood Knowledge: Knowledge of early childhood education programs and techniques.
  • Child Development: Knowledge of child development theory and practice.
