Position Overview

The Patient Care Assistant is responsible for delivering essential care and support to patients under the supervision of a Registered Nurse. This role encompasses both direct patient care and various non-clinical tasks within the healthcare setting.


Key Responsibilities:

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Assisting with Activities of Daily Living (ADLs)
  • Monitoring and recording vital signs
  • Documenting intake and output (I&O)
  • Conducting EKGs
  • Performing simple dressing changes
  • Collecting specimens
  • Supporting patients during meals
  • Transporting patients and items as needed
  • Assisting with medication administration and specimen handling
  • Facilitating patient mobility and ambulation
  • Providing care for urinary drainage systems
  • Assisting with colostomy care
  • Applying binders and weighing patients
  • Supporting healthcare providers during procedures and examinations
  • Carrying out additional duties as assigned
Essential Functions:

The Patient Care Assistant will:

  • Comply with all performance standards, policies, and procedures
  • Integrate patient rights into daily practice
  • Implement current infection control protocols
  • Engage in Performance Improvement Initiatives
  • Collaborate effectively with the healthcare team
  • Complete required competency assessments
  • Participate in mandatory training sessions and staff meetings
  • Utilize cost-effective practices
  • Adhere to all hospital policies including dress code and conduct
Qualifications:

Applicants should possess:

  • A High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Prior experience in a healthcare setting preferred
  • Successful completion of the Patient Care Assistant Orientation
  • Current BLS certification from the American Heart Association (required for new hires)
  • Completion of an EKG training course if applicable
