Kern Medical has been a vital part of the community since its establishment in 1867. Today, we function as an acute care teaching facility with 222 beds, providing the only advanced trauma services between Fresno and Los Angeles. Each year, Kern Medical serves approximately 15,500 inpatients and 125,000 clinic patients.
Position Overview:
We are seeking a Clinical Laboratory Specialist II on a Per Diem basis. This role involves performing a diverse range of laboratory tests across various clinical laboratory sections while maintaining meticulous records of examinations and findings.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct a variety of laboratory tests and procedures utilizing different specimen types and established laboratory techniques.
- Execute daily quality control measures and apply professional expertise to both routine and specialized procedures.
- Operate a range of automated laboratory instruments and equipment.
- Maintain comprehensive records of examinations and findings; input and manage clinical laboratory data using appropriate computer systems and software.
- Keep performance records and assist in the education of Medical Technology students.
- Foster effective professional relationships with laboratory personnel, other hospital departments, and external contacts involved in the execution of duties.
- Participate in the training and orientation of new staff members.
- Attend relevant conferences and educational events.
Additional Duties:
- Perform other job-related tasks as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Minimum of one year of experience as a licensed Clinical Laboratory Scientist in a hospital or public health laboratory setting.
- Valid license to practice as a Clinical Laboratory Scientist in the State of California, or a specialized license in Clinical Chemistry, Clinical Microbiology, or Clinical Immunohematology.
- Candidates must provide the name and location of employers that contributed to their qualifying experience.
Knowledge and Skills:
- Proficient understanding of laboratory principles, methods, and techniques; familiarity with current software for maintaining clinical laboratory data.
Abilities:
- Accurately perform a variety of laboratory tests and procedures with attention to detail.
- Demonstrate knowledge of contemporary instrumentation and methodologies.
- Maintain precise records and operate computer systems effectively.
- Understand and follow both oral and written instructions.
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships with colleagues and others involved in the performance of duties.

- A background check may be required for this position.
