SUMMARY


The primary role of the Physician Assistant is to support supervising physicians in delivering direct diagnostic and therapeutic patient care. This position emphasizes effective, patient-centered, timely, efficient, and equitable care for health issues and wellness promotion. The Physician Assistant will counsel and educate patients and their families regarding diseases and health conditions. This role primarily operates within the outpatient clinic environment while also providing assistance in the operating room.

The main work location is at the TMC Campus, with a requirement to be flexible in traveling to various Houston Area Locations (HALS). The ideal candidate will possess a valid Physician Assistant license and have prior experience in Surgery or Urology.

KEY FUNCTIONS

  • Collects medical histories and conducts physical examinations on patients. Analyzes diagnostic tests and imaging results to develop management plans in collaboration with faculty physicians. Takes responsibility for patient assessments, triage, and therapeutic management as part of an interdisciplinary team. Accurately documents all patient interactions.
  • Reviews and orders diagnostic tests and imaging results. Develops and oversees patient treatment plans and outcomes.
  • Serves as first or second assistant during surgical procedures, utilizing fine motor skills and manual dexterity.
  • Executes procedures, prescribes treatments, and signs prescriptions in compliance with institutional and state regulations. Screens physician calls to provide education to patients and families regarding care and available resources.
  • Collaborates on research initiatives, formulates protocols, and integrates research findings into practice.
  • Performs additional duties as assigned.

Required:

LICENSE/CERTIFICATION

  • Licensed by the Texas State Board of Physician Assistant Examiners.
  • Current Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation Certification (CPR), Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) OR Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS).

  • Eligibility for limited prescriptive authority granted by the State of Texas.
