Job Title: Driver & Dealer Examiner

Join the State of Minnesota team as a Driver & Dealer Examiner, playing a critical role in promoting public roadway safety by administering prescribed vision screening, knowledge, oral, road, and skills tests for motor vehicle operators.

About the Role

This position is responsible for inspecting motor vehicle dealership facilities and records to ensure compliance with state dealer laws, and inspecting motor vehicles for identification and titling purposes.

Key Responsibilities
  • Administer vision screening, knowledge, oral, road, and skills tests for motor vehicle operators
  • Inspect motor vehicle dealership facilities and records to ensure compliance with state dealer laws
  • Inspect motor vehicles for identification and titling purposes
  • Provide customer service and communicate complex information to a wide variety of audiences
  • Work effectively with individuals from diverse backgrounds and underserved communities
Requirements
  • Oral, written, and customer service communication skills
  • Customer service and interpersonal skills
  • Cashiering and math skills
  • Experience providing customer service in a high-volume, stressful environment
  • Typing-keyboarding skills
  • Unrestricted driver's license
  • Ability to work outdoors in all types of weather
Preferred Qualifications
  • Knowledge of driving and motor vehicle laws
  • Ability to negotiate, resolve issues, and settle disputes
  • Face-to-face customer service experience in a business with high-volume customer traffic
  • Ability to problem solve, prioritize, and manage a wide variety of duties
Physical Requirements

Employee must be able to communicate effectively with others, understand information clearly, and have a minimum visual acuity of 20/40, corrected or uncorrected, and a visual field greater than or equal to 105 degrees.

Additional Requirements

The Department of Public Safety requires all employees to submit to a background investigation prior to employment, which includes a criminal history check, reference check, fingerprinting check, credit check, driver's license check, and US citizenship check.
