Daily Responsibilities:
The Medical Assistant plays a crucial role in supporting healthcare providers by managing various patient flow, supply, and environmental tasks to facilitate high-quality patient care.
Key Responsibilities Include:
- Reviewing electronic medical records (EMR) prior to patient appointments.
- Ensuring availability of lab results, consult reports, and hospital discharge records for the provider.
- Identifying patients according to policy and escorting them to examination rooms, while documenting reasons for visits and updating medical histories.
- Providing necessary forms for patients to complete before their visits.
- Accurately measuring and recording vital signs, height, weight, and oxygen saturation.
- Assisting patients with preparation for examinations, including dressing and undressing.
- Delivering patient care tailored to the individual's age, physical condition, and cognitive abilities.
- Conducting basic tests such as hearing, vision, breathing, and EKG, and documenting results in EMR.
- Recognizing and reporting abnormal vital signs and potential emergencies to the provider.
- Notifying providers of patient arrivals and readiness for examinations.
- Supporting providers and nurses during patient visits, including assisting with diagnostic studies and treatments.
- Operating and monitoring medical equipment and instruments.
- Collecting and preparing lab specimens while adhering to safety protocols.
- Assisting with minor surgical procedures and applying dressings as directed.
- Participating in quality assurance initiatives and training sessions.
- Maintaining cleanliness and organization of examination rooms in compliance with safety standards.
- Ensuring patient confidentiality and demonstrating professionalism at all times.
- Maintaining a clean and safe work environment.
- Ability to travel between various service locations as needed.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Certification as a Medical Assistant or equivalent qualifications (such as EMT or completion of a nursing program).
- BLS certification is required.
- Phlebotomy training is necessary prior to drawing blood.
