Daily Responsibilities:

The Clinical Nurse Specialist at Outer Cape Health Services is tasked with delivering direct patient care through the nursing process during assigned shifts. The role involves collaboration with a multidisciplinary team to achieve patient outcomes aligned with a comprehensive care plan.

Key Responsibilities Include:

  • Assist in managing patient inquiries via telephone
  • Conduct intake assessments for walk-in patients to determine urgent care needs
  • Support healthcare providers during urgent care procedures
  • Implement medical orders for EKGs, dressing changes, suture removals, ear lavages, splinting, injections, IV insertions, and infusions
  • Facilitate necessary referrals for patient care management
  • Collect required patient specimens and perform or request diagnostic tests
  • Communicate laboratory results to healthcare providers
  • Prioritize the communication of abnormal test results to physicians and patients (upon request)
  • Administer treatments as prescribed by healthcare providers
  • Conduct routine patient evaluations in accordance with OCHS Nursing Protocols
  • Seek guidance from the Nurse Manager as needed
  • Ensure an optimal patient experience by addressing concerns and thoroughly explaining procedures and diagnoses
  • Maintain patient confidentiality and privacy in compliance with OCHS policies and HIPAA regulations
  • Document patient records accurately and promptly in the Electronic Medical Record (EMR)
  • Educate patients on the proper use of medical equipment and prescribed care regimens
  • Refer patients to external resources or support groups for additional education or assistance
  • Promote teamwork by collaborating with colleagues, including providers and support staff

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor of Science or Associate Degree in Nursing from an accredited institution
  • Current Registered Nurse (RN) license from the Massachusetts State Board of Registration
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification and IV skills
  • Minimum of 1 year of professional nursing experience in emergency, urgent care, or primary care settings
  • Commitment to ongoing professional development through continuing education
