About the Role:
The Patent Application Filing Specialist will be responsible for preparing and e-filing new patent applications and accompanying documents at the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO). This role requires strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
Key Responsibilities:
- Prepare patent applications for attorney signature and filing at the USPTO.
- Manage electronic files, including opening new files and maintaining files according to firm protocol.
- Review and edit prepared application filing documents for accuracy.
- Provide administrative support for attorneys and timekeepers.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of USPTO rules and filing procedures.
Requirements:
- High school diploma or GED equivalent required; college-level courses or degree preferred.
- Legal Secretary/Assistant experience in a law firm environment, including two years of patent and trademark prosecution experience, required.
- Above-average proficiency in Microsoft Word with strong and accurate typing skills.
- Excellent proofreading, editing, grammar, communication, and organizational skills.
- Ability to work efficiently under minimal supervision and prioritize tasks effectively.
