We are seeking a highly skilled MRI Technologist to join our team at Kaiser Permanente. As an MRI Technologist, you will be responsible for producing high-quality diagnostic images of the human anatomy and vasculature using Magnetic Resonance Imaging equipment.
Key Responsibilities:- Operate MRI equipment to produce diagnostic-quality images of the brain, spinal cord, head and neck, thorax, abdomen, pelvis, large joints, and other areas of the human anatomy and vasculature.
- Perform basic and advanced protocols to maximize image quality and acquire images that can be utilized by physicians to diagnose disease processes and pathology.
- Uphold Kaiser Permanente's policies and procedures, principles of responsibilities, and applicable state, federal, and local laws.
- Essential Duties:
- Observe all applicable Regional, Medical Center, and department policies and procedures.
- Assess data reflective of the patient's status and interpret the appropriate information needed to identify each patient's requirements relative to their age-specific needs.
- Document clinical activities in a timely, comprehensive, and accurate manner.
- Maintain standards of professional behavior established to enhance quality of service.
- Demonstrate effective communication skills and professional conduct in all interactions with patients and staff.
- Maintain equipment, supplies, and work area in accordance with department guidelines.
- Essential Clinical Duties and Responsibilities:
- Interview patients to explain magnetic resonance imaging procedures, obtain patient history, and conduct imaging screens.
- Correlate requested exams with patient history and diagnosis.
- Position patients as required for requested exams or use variations to ensure proper positioning of patients to the magnet isocenter.
- Select appropriate coils for requested exams and position coils to demonstrate areas of interest and obtain maximum transmit and receive signal.
- Obtain optimal MR imaging throughout the entire region of interest by selecting and applying imaging parameters.
- Perform tuning procedures and utilize appropriate protocols for producing optimal images.
- Identify and use appropriate planes for a particular exam and modify protocols as required to produce optimal images.
- Recognize the need for additional sequences, changes in protocols, and the need for paramagnetic contrast studies based on patient pathology, physical condition, or image quality problems.
- Differentiate normal anatomy and normal variations in appearance from abnormal conditions to make associated changes in imaging.
- Apply special applications of MR such as contrast agents/studies, MR angiography, MR interventional, magnetization transfer imaging (MTI), echo planar, spectroscopy, maximum intensity projection, cine, and perfusion/diffusion imaging.
- Enter specific data into the computer, such as patient history, anatomical area to be scanned, and orientation specified.
- Key commands to specify scan sequences into the computer and adjust transmitters and receivers.
- View images of the area being scanned on video display screens to ensure image quality.
- Film scan results using a laser camera or photograph images and process film.
- Two (2) years of clinical experience as a Radiologic Technologist in an acute care medical center.
- Per the National Agreement, current KP Coalition employees have this experience requirement waived.
- Successful completion of an accredited educational program in radiological technology approved by the American Medical Association and the American College of Radiology.
- Successful completion of an on-the-job or formal training program in cross-sectional anatomy and Magnetic Resonance Imaging.
- Radiologic Technologist Certificate (California).
- Radiologic Technologist Certification from American Registry of Radiologic Technologists.
- Basic Life Support.
- Two (2) years of clinical experience as an MRI Technologist in an acute care medical center.
- Computed Tomography experience.
- Experience with GE MRI systems.
- Additional training in the use and practices of Magnetic Resonance Imaging.
- Advanced Certification in Magnetic Resonance Imaging issued by the ARRT.
- Experience with Advantage Windows workstation.
- Experience with PACS.
- Current schedule is variable.
- Shifts, hours, and/or locations may vary based on operational need.
- Schedule work hours will be 20 – 32 per week.
