Job Description

We're seeking a highly skilled Sr. Engineering Manager to lead our Infrastructure team. As an integral part of our organization, you'll be responsible for building and operating scalable systems that enable us to deliver high-quality Databricks Runtime releases to a global multi-cloud environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Team Leadership: Build and lead a talented engineering team that develops critical infrastructure for efficient Databricks Runtime release development.
  • Partnership and Collaboration: Partner with our development teams to improve the efficiency of release life cycle development activities.
  • Release Team Oversight: Lead our release team in overseeing Databricks Runtime Releases to ensure high-quality delivery of standard, machine learning, and Photon runtimes.
  • Talent Acquisition and Development: Oversee sustained recruitment of top-tier talent, foster a well-organized team structure, and collaborate effectively with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Process Implementation: Implement robust processes to efficiently execute product vision, strategy, and roadmap in alignment with organizational goals and priorities.

The Impact You Will Have:

  • Automated Infrastructure: Develop automated build, test, and release infrastructure to deploy Databricks Runtime releases to existing cloud providers.
  • Company-Wide Initiatives: Support company-wide initiatives by adapting existing infrastructure for key company deliverables.
  • Enhanced Product Release Workflows: Enhance product release workflows for engineering and operational efficiency.
  • Data Analysis: Use our own data and AI platform to analyze fleet metrics for deployment safety and efficiency.
  • Release Life Cycle Management: Set and uphold guidelines for release life-cycles, cadence, and development workflows by owning a release pipeline capable of accommodating our engineering team and corporate release cadence objectives.
  • Technical Debt Management: Manage technical debt, including long-term technical architecture decisions and balance product roadmap.

What We Look For:

  • Education: BS (or higher) in Computer Science, or a related field.
  • Experience: 5+ years of experience building and leading a team of engineers working in a related system.
  • Scalability and Reliability: Passion for building highly scalable and reliable infrastructure.
  • Cloud Experience: Experience with cloud APIs and technologies e.g., a public cloud such as AWS, Azure, and/or GCP.
  • Infrastructure Technologies: Experience with build, release, and deployment infrastructure technologies such as Spinnaker, Jenkins, Airflow, Docker, Kubernetes, Terraform, Bazel, etc.
  • Quality Assurance: Can ensure the team builds high-quality and reliable infrastructure services; experience being responsible for testing, quality, and SLAs of a product; previous experience building and leading teams in a complex technical domain, such as on distributed data systems or database internals.
  • Talent Attraction and Coaching: Ability to attract, hire, and coach engineers who meet the Databricks hiring standards - can up-level existing team via hiring top-notch senior talent, growing leaders, and helping struggling members; can gain trust of the team and guide their careers.
  • Cross-Functional Projects: Comfort working on cross-functional projects with the ability to deeply understand product and customer personas.

Salary Estimate: $250,000 - $350,000 per year
