Job Summary

The Medical Assistant I, Certified provides routine clinical and administrative support to healthcare providers and other team members in an outpatient clinic setting.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform rooming and intake processes, collecting and documenting patient data, including vital signs, height, weight, and reason for visit.
  • Collect patient and family data, including medical and social history.
  • Review patient's current medication list, allergies, and preferred pharmacy.
  • Assist providers as directed during treatments, examinations, and procedures.
  • Collect specimens and perform phlebotomy.
  • Administer medications under the direction of a provider.
  • Perform tests, such as EKG and eye exams, under the direction of a provider.
  • Review patient records to determine routine health screenings.
  • Ensure exam and procedure rooms contain necessary supplies, equipment, forms, and educational materials.
  • Provide patients with after-visit, follow-up, self-care, or procedural instructions and educational materials as directed.
  • Prepare, clean, stock, and maintain exam and treatment rooms.
  • Clean and sterilize instruments.
  • Assist with patient registration, check-in/check-out, appointment scheduling, and scheduling of tests and treatments, and referrals.
  • Answer clinic telephones and assist with in-basket under the direction of a provider or nurse.
  • Assist in emergency situations as directed by a provider or nurse.
Requirements
  • Medical Assistant certification by a recognized organization.
  • Basic Life Support Certification from American Heart Association or American Red Cross.
  • Prior medical assistant or medical assistant externship experience preferred.
  • Ability to perform essential functions of the position.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to engage positively with patients and families and work as a team with staff and providers.
  • Ability to use a computer to document required information into the electronic medical record.
