Position Overview:

The Senior Financial Accountant will be responsible for preparing and overseeing financial documentation to monitor the organization's assets, liabilities, revenues, expenses, tax obligations, and other financial activities.

Key Responsibilities:

Core Duties:

  • Ensure accurate and current client ledgers by recording payments to their respective accounts. Verify that payments are allocated to the correct invoices for fees and expenses.
  • Detect and resolve discrepancies in accounting records, investigating and correcting errors through communication with clients, vendors, and internal teams.
  • Handle daily bank deposits and reconcile those transactions promptly.
  • Facilitate fund transfers between bank accounts as necessary.
  • Address inquiries from clients, attorneys, and staff regarding accounts receivable and trust account balances.
  • Issue checks upon request.
  • Prepare entries for the general ledger and maintain supporting documentation.
  • Conduct monthly reconciliations of all balance sheet accounts.
  • Generate reports on client trust accounts, accounts receivable, and client payments.
  • Assist the Finance Director and CFO in the preparation of monthly financial reports.
  • Participate in cross-training for various functions within the department.
  • Foster positive relationships with both internal and external clients, consistently delivering courteous service in a timely manner.
  • Maintain confidentiality regarding sensitive information related to the firm and its clients.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications, Skills, and Competencies:

The ideal candidate will be a collaborative team player with a positive outlook and a commitment to exceeding expectations, along with the following qualifications:

  • A minimum of 3 years of relevant experience is required.
  • A comprehensive understanding of fundamental accounting principles and their practical application.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities to perform tasks accurately and efficiently.
  • Capability to prioritize, manage multiple tasks, and organize workflows effectively, demonstrating initiative and urgency in meeting deadlines.
  • A proactive mindset with the ability to evaluate workflows for efficiency and accuracy, recommending improvements as necessary.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills for effective interaction with colleagues, vendors, and clients.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Advanced Excel skills.
  • Experience with Aderant Expert software or similar legal financial management tools is preferred but not mandatory.

Educational Background:

  • A Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business is required.

Work Arrangement:

  • Hybrid: 4 days in the office, 1 day remote work.

Additional Qualifications:

  • Experience in a law firm setting is essential.
  • At least 1 year of accounts receivable experience is required.
