The Patient Access Representative is a critical member of our healthcare team, serving as the first point of contact for patients and families. This role requires exceptional customer service skills, emotional intelligence, and the ability to make a personal connection with patients.
Key Responsibilities- Utilize critical thinking skills to problem-solve a variety of situations, anticipating patients' needs and responding to them in a professional, positive, and patient-focused manner.
- Communicate effectively with patients, families, and co-workers to ensure positive patient experiences, maximize reimbursements, and minimize denials and avoidable write-offs.
- Register and schedule patients within multiple BJC systems, ensuring proper patient identification, verification of insurance, and accurate collection of demographic and insurance information.
- Validate orders, ensure correct test ordering, and provide patients with preparation instructions for scheduled procedures.
- Enforce hospital compliance with complex regulatory guidelines, including Medicare Secondary Payer (MSP), HIPAA Privacy Standards, Patient Bill of Rights and Responsibilities, Advance Directives, Consent to Treat, EMTALA, and JCAHO Requirements.
- High School Diploma or GED
- No experience required, but an Associate's Degree and < 2 years of experience are preferred
- CHAA certification is a plus
