Job Title: Lecturer in Health Science and Policy
Job Summary:
Brandeis University seeks an instructor for the Health Science and Policy program to teach the HSSP 110a (Health Science Senior Capstone course) in Spring 2024.
Course Overview:
The HSSP 110a course is designed for seniors in the health major to aggregate their coursework into examining and proposing solutions to a key health care dilemma.
Course Format:
The course will be taught using a problem-based learning (PBL) format, requiring students to be active learners throughout the course.
Student Responsibilities:
- Students will decide, with guidance, how to tackle the problem and learn about it in all its scientific, social, and policy aspects.
- Students will be responsible for generating readings and discussion materials for each class.
- Students will use all available resources to obtain information about the problem, including exploring the scientific literature, contacting experts, evaluating claims-makers and stakeholders, locating and evaluating advocacy or self-help groups, assessing treatment programs, etc.
Course Deliverables:
- Students will develop a group paper (approximately five-six student groups per course) on some significant aspect of the problem.
- Students will present their findings to the class.
- Each student will develop a brief position paper, selecting and prioritizing recommended policies to address the problem.
Grading:
Grading will be based on participation (both class attendance and active classroom participation) and evaluation of written and presentation material.
Requirements:
We seek candidates who have earned a PhD (or other doctorate) in a health-related discipline, as well as sufficient field-based experience to guide soon-to-graduate students on both the theoretical and practical aspects of the topic.
Faculty who have taught undergraduate health science courses will be given preference.
