POSITION OVERVIEW:
Under general supervision, the role involves the preparation of federal and state income and franchise tax filings, extensions, and estimated payments. Provide tax support to Fifth Third Bancorp entities to fulfill necessary tax obligations.
Accountable for risk management by openly sharing ideas and concerns, adhering to established policies and procedures. Committed to ethical practices that prioritize the interests of customers and colleagues, ensuring actions contribute to a positive customer experience. While operating within the Bank's risk framework, success is achieved by consistently identifying, assessing, managing, monitoring, and reporting various risks.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Ensure timely and accurate completion of federal income tax returns.
- Ensure timely and accurate completion of state income and franchise tax returns.
- Gather and analyze data necessary for tax return preparation, extensions, and estimated payments.
- Prepare precise and timely allocation journal entries in accordance with regulatory standards.
- Initiate payment requests to ensure timely remittance to relevant jurisdictions.
- Collaborate with Accounting, Finance, and Line of Business teams for necessary information.
- Assist in the quarterly review of federal and state income tax provision journal entries.
- Analyze state franchise tax accruals and prepare necessary journal entries.
- Calculate and maintain deferred income tax balances and taxes payable/receivable for financial statement inclusion.
- Oversee the recording of tax accounting journal entries.
- Validate and reconcile general ledger tax accounts on a monthly basis.
- Conduct research on relevant tax laws, including data analysis related to specific issues.
- Address corporate tax law issues arising during return preparation for both federal and state levels.

- Assist in responding to Information Document Requests for federal and state audits.
No supervisory responsibilities.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor's Degree in Accounting or Finance (Accounting preferred).
- Progress toward CPA or Master's degree is preferred.
- A minimum of 2 years of experience in public accounting or a corporate tax department.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, including Word and Excel.
- Familiarity with tax return preparation software (preferably CorpTax) is advantageous.
- This position requires strong analytical, verbal, and written communication skills for effective interaction with personnel from staff to senior management.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a team.
- Capability to thrive in a professional and dynamic environment.
- Demonstrate sound judgment and apply logical/critical thinking skills.
