ABOUT NORTHERN TIER HIGH ADVENTURE PROGRAM
As a premier high adventure program affiliated with the Boy Scouts of America, we focus on wilderness canoe expeditions and winter camping adventures. Our summer programs attract scouts from various regions, allowing them to explore the natural beauty of vast lakes, rivers, and forests. Our guiding principles are rooted in the scout oath and law, aiming to provide transformative experiences tailored for scouting units.
Each year, we hire a diverse group of staff from around the globe, bringing unique skills and perspectives to our team. Together, we create unforgettable wilderness experiences for youth and adults alike.
A DAY IN THE LIFE OF A WINTER CAMPING GUIDE / CAMP COUNSELOR
In this role, you will be integral to our program, working closely with scouts to ensure their safety and enjoyment. Your daily activities will include winter camping, sledding, ice fishing, and teaching essential outdoor skills, all while serving as a positive role model. When not leading excursions, you will assist with various base camp support tasks, including maintenance and administrative duties. This position promises to be a memorable winter adventure.
All Winter Trail Staff will receive comprehensive training, including a Wilderness First Aid course and a multi-day training expedition. Winter activities may involve cross-country skiing, snowshoeing, dog sledding, and winter camping.
QUALIFICATIONS FOR A WINTER CAMPING GUIDE / CAMP COUNSELOR
- Must be 18 years of age or older
- Available for the winter season
- Genuine enthusiasm for winter camping
- Strong passion for outdoor adventures and youth mentorship
Ideal candidates will possess critical thinking skills, the ability to work independently, and a strong focus on safety. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills are essential, as is the ability to engage effectively with both youth and adults. Patience and composure under pressure are also key attributes for success in this role.
WORK SCHEDULE
This position typically involves a schedule of six working days followed by one day off, throughout the winter season.
