Overview:
The Certified Surgical Technologist plays a crucial role in supporting surgical teams by preparing and caring for patients prior to surgical procedures. This position involves ensuring the operating room is set up according to established protocols, maintaining sterile conditions, and providing comfort to patients during their surgical journey.
Key Responsibilities:
- Uphold the standards of the OneCHRISTUS Competencies: Leader of Self, Leader of Others, or Leader of Leaders.
- Under the supervision of a registered nurse, execute all tasks related to direct patient care and assistance in the operating room before and during surgical interventions.
- Demonstrate proficiency in scrubbing for multiple specialty areas, including but not limited to: Transplants, Open Heart, Urology, Neurology, and Robotics.
- Establish and maintain a sterile environment, passing instruments and sutures to the surgeon as needed.
- Utilize the physician preference card as a guide for case preparation and ensure that these cards are regularly updated.
- Collaborate effectively with the surgical team to ensure optimal patient care.
- Maintain a safe and sterile environment by adhering to technical and aseptic practices.
- Exhibit expertise in the management and care of surgical instruments and supplies.
- Follow Universal Barrier Precautions to ensure safety for both patients and staff in all care situations.
- Monitor and manage the surgical environment, ensuring compliance with traffic control, dress codes, and sanitation policies.
- Familiarize oneself with facility protocols regarding the decontamination and sterilization of surgical instruments.
- Adapt patient care methods to meet the diverse needs of the patient population served.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
Education and Skills:
- High School Diploma or equivalent is mandatory.
- Completion of an accredited Surgical Technology program or an LVN/LPN program is essential.
Experience:
- A minimum of 2 years of relevant experience is preferred.
Certifications:
- BLS certification is required.
- Certification as a Surgical Technologist from The National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting must be obtained within 180 days of graduation or possession of an LVN/LPN License is required.
