Job Summary

VCA Animal Hospitals is seeking a highly skilled Registered Veterinary Technician to join our Emergency and Critical Care team. As a key member of our team, you will play a crucial role in providing high-quality emergency care to animals in need.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Triage and Assessment: Perform an initial assessment to evaluate the patient's condition quickly, checking vital signs, assessing for obvious injuries or distress, and gathering information from the pet owner about the situation.
  • Medical Procedures: Proficiently perform venipuncture and intravenous catheter placement, safely and accurately administer fluids, medications, and other treatments as prescribed by veterinarians.
  • Team Collaboration: Work in conjunction with all technical staff across the hospital to ensure hospitalized patients receive optimal care, maintaining open communication with the healthcare team.
  • Intensive Care Unit (ICU) Monitoring: Vigilantly monitor hospitalized patients, recognizing subtle changes in their clinical status and promptly reporting any concerns to the veterinary team.
  • Client Education: Provide clear and concise discharge instructions to clients, ensuring they understand the care their furry family member requires after leaving the hospital.
  • Record Keeping: Maintain accurate records, including patient history, treatment details, and client communication.
  • Anesthesia and Sedation Monitoring: Prepare patients for procedures and monitor anesthesia to ensure patient safety.
  • Diagnostic Imaging: Operate diagnostic imaging equipment and assist in capturing radiographs and other diagnostic images.
  • Laboratory Procedures: Run diagnostics (i.e., CBC, Chem Panel, NOVA, iSTAT, UA), correlate results with the clinical presentation of the patient, and notify Veterinarian of results.
  • Blood Transfusion Therapy: Including collection, administration, and transfusion reactions.
  • Administering Oxygen: Flow-by Oxygen, Nasal Oxygen Cannula, or Oxygen Cage.
  • Assist Doctors: Collaborate closely with veterinarians to assist in exams, treatments, and medical procedures for emergency cases.
Qualifications:
  • Registered Veterinary Technician (CVT) or internship trained.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work well in a fast-paced and often high-stress environment.
