Students Rising Above (SRA) is a nonprofit organization based in the Bay Area, dedicated to fostering a world where every individual can attain economic and social equity. Our mission is to support traditionally underrepresented students by connecting them with essential tools, resources, and a nurturing community that facilitates their journey from college to career.

Our organization is composed of a dedicated team of professionals, an engaged student network, corporate partners, and the generosity of individual donors and foundations. SRA has developed a comprehensive program that provides thousands of students with: Academic Advising; Career Counseling; Professional Development; Emotional Support; and Healthcare Navigation.

By offering extensive guidance and support at critical moments, SRA fulfills its mission through a variety of impactful initiatives that change lives for generations. Established 25 years ago, SRA now serves all nine counties in the region.

OPPORTUNITY

The next Chief Executive Officer (CEO) will report to and work closely with the Board of Directors, responsible for advancing SRA's mission by enhancing the effectiveness of its programs and services, driving revenue growth, fostering community development, and strengthening operational systems. The CEO will represent SRA to government entities, engage with the broader community, manage Board functions, and act as the primary ambassador for the organization, enhancing its reputation as a leading nonprofit.

The ideal candidate will have a proven history of securing diverse funding from individual donors, foundations, and government sources. The successful CEO will demonstrate experience in cultivating an inclusive organizational culture that values transparency, collaboration, and diversity. Strong operational and financial leadership skills are essential, along with the ability to effectively develop and lead teams.

The next CEO will be a strategic, business-oriented leader with a strong operational background and cultural empathy, possessing significant executive experience in the nonprofit sector. A deep commitment to SRA's mission and enthusiasm for leading this unique organization are crucial.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Fundraising Innovation: The CEO will spearhead efforts to enhance SRA's development strategy, focusing on revenue diversification and sustainability. This includes nurturing existing funder relationships and pursuing new opportunities with major donors, foundations, and corporations through compelling fundraising initiatives.
  • Leadership Excellence: Collaborating with the Board and staff, the CEO will bring SRA's vision to fruition, establishing ambitious goals and operational plans. The CEO will also foster a supportive culture while ensuring accountability for productivity and impact.
  • Board Engagement: The CEO will work closely with the Board of Directors to set a clear vision for the future, ensuring effective communication and information sharing regarding organizational health and governance.
  • Financial Oversight: The CEO will enhance SRA's financial management practices, ensuring fiscal health and sustainability through effective monitoring and strategic investments.
  • Public Representation: As the organization's thought leader, the CEO will enhance SRA's visibility and reputation, building partnerships and representing the organization in various forums.
  • Team Development: The CEO will be responsible for recruiting and nurturing a high-performing team, emphasizing equity and diversity in all aspects of the organization.
  • Operational Excellence: The CEO will evaluate and refine organizational systems and processes to support SRA's growth and sophistication.
  • Technological Advancement: The CEO will advocate for innovative technologies to improve operations and outreach, ensuring the organization's technological infrastructure is secure and scalable.

PRIORITIES

QUALIFICATIONS

  • A passion for SRA's mission and a commitment to social impact.
  • A minimum of a bachelor's degree in business, nonprofit management, or a related field.
  • A proven track record in fundraising, strategic planning, and organizational leadership.
  • Experience in a CEO or executive role within the nonprofit sector is preferred.
  • A deep understanding of the nonprofit landscape and its challenges.
  • Ability to leverage technology for innovation and growth.
  • Strong strategic thinking and decision-making skills.
  • Experience managing complex budgets.

COMPENSATION

This position offers a competitive salary range and a comprehensive benefits package. The CEO must reside in the Bay Area or be able to travel to the region as needed.
