Position Overview
The Los Rios Community College District is on the lookout for qualified candidates to fill a part-time, temporary (Adjunct) faculty role in the field of Optometry Technology. These adjunct positions are filled as necessary through continuous recruitment efforts. Candidates may be contacted and hired throughout the year based on the needs of the college.


The adjunct faculty member will be tasked with the following responsibilities: instructing assigned courses under the guidance of the area dean; supporting students in achieving their highest potential in mastering course material; evaluating student learning outcomes; maintaining current and comprehensive knowledge in their teaching discipline; engaging in ongoing professional development; employing modern technology in the execution of job responsibilities; upholding professional conduct and ethical standards pertinent to the role; contributing to curriculum development and review; participating in college committees and faculty governance, including accreditation and student co-curricular activities; and undertaking additional responsibilities as assigned by the area dean.

Compensation Information:

Initial salary placement is determined by academic qualifications, upper/graduate level coursework completed, and/or relevant professional experience as outlined in the Los Rios College Federation of Teachers Contract (initial maximum placement is Class V, Step 1).

Typical Responsibilities
The instructional role may involve teaching courses across various levels within this discipline. Specific courses available may differ by campus.

Potential Courses for This Role Include:
OPT 101 Anatomy, Physiology and Pathology of the Eye
OPT 202 Contact Lens Theory I
OPT 206 Review Course for National Contact Lens Certification Exam

Minimum Qualifications

Applicants must possess any bachelor's degree or higher AND two years of professional experience as a certified Optician for dispensing and fitting both eyeglasses and contact lenses in either a retail or clinical setting; OR any associate degree AND six years of professional experience as a certified Optician for dispensing and fitting both eyeglasses and contact lenses in either a retail or clinical setting; OR hold a current National Contact Lens Examiners (NCLE) Certification, Contact Lens Dispenser (CLD) AND current American Board of Opticianry (ABO) Certification, Spectacle Lens Dispenser (SLD); OR meet the equivalent qualifications.*

All degrees must be from an accredited institution and completed by the time of hire.
