Job OverviewEmployment Type: Full-time Shift: Evening Shift Role Summary: The Patient Care Technician plays a crucial role in delivering direct patient support, collaborating with healthcare professionals to ensure optimal patient care tailored to individual needs.

GENERAL PATIENT SUPPORT - Attends to the comfort and hygiene requirements of patients by providing essential services such as bathing, oral hygiene, hair grooming, and assisting with bedpan and urinal usage. Responsible for meal distribution, monitoring vital signs, and collecting laboratory specimens.

TECHNICAL ASSISTANCE - Aids in executing patient testing and treatment protocols, prepares and primes IV lines, performs 12-lead ECGs, assists with basic tracheostomy care, changes dressings, and is trained in cardiopulmonary resuscitation, as well as obtaining wound and throat cultures.

EQUIPMENT SUPPORT - Collaborates with physicians and clinical staff in the setup and supply of necessary medical equipment.

PATIENT TRANSPORTATION - Supports the mobility of patients using assistive devices like crutches and assists with transfer and transport processes.

COMMUNICATION SKILLS - Conducts necessary documentation and communicates effectively to meet the needs of patients and their families while adhering to regulatory standards. Maintains strict confidentiality regarding patient, employee, and departmental information to uphold patient rights.

QUALITY ENHANCEMENT - Efficiently utilizes time and resources to foster quality care and cost-effective outcomes.

Minimum Education:
Preferred: High School Diploma with training gained through work experience or education.

Minimum Experience:
Required: Less than one year of relevant job experience.
Preferred: 1-2 years of relevant job experience.

Licensure/Certifications:
Required:
Certified Nurse Assistant
BLS (Basic Life Support) certification through AHA.

Additional Requirements:
Completion of a Nursing Assistant Program with registration on the Illinois Department of Health Nurse Aide Registry or verification of an equivalent or higher educational level in a clinically focused program. Individuals who served as Patient Care Assistants at Loyola University Medical Center prior to 1997 are exempt from these guidelines and are grandfathered into the Patient Care Technician roles upon successful completion of an in-house orientation and training program for the Patient Care Technician position.
