Job Overview

PRIMARY FUNCTION
The Site Safety Manager is responsible for ensuring that all environmental health and safety (HSE) protocols are met on-site, adhering to both regulatory and policy standards. This role involves collaboration with management and various departments to maintain and develop policies and procedures, conduct inspections, audits, task evaluations, and training sessions, and report on performance metrics in line with project and company HSE requirements.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Establish and implement a thorough HSE system at the site, ensuring compliance with specifications, procedures, and local regulations.
  • Regularly review site procedures to maintain safe working conditions.
  • Monitor work activities, focusing on worker welfare and equipment safety.
  • Conduct investigations into incidents and generate reports with recommendations to prevent future occurrences.
  • Collaborate with the Construction Manager and Engineering Manager to ensure safety in designated areas.
  • Supervise trade-specific safety officers to ensure compliance with safety procedures, including:
    • Conducting new hire orientations and assisting with HR documentation.
    • Ensuring safety protocols are followed in their respective areas.
    • Facilitating weekly toolbox meetings as required.
  • Prepare weekly project status reports and document any incidents that occur on-site.
  • Oversee all site activities, ensuring worker welfare and equipment safety.
  • Achieve safety goals for every project, including:
    • No accidents or near misses.
    • No OSHA citations.
  • Promote a positive attitude towards safe work practices among employees.
  • Ensure employees are well-informed about safety practices and have the necessary resources to work safely.
  • Adhere to all governmental safety regulations, project requirements, and company safety policies.
  • Analyze accidents and recommend corrective actions.
  • Act as the primary contact for Owner/Client Safety Representatives.
  • Post safety bulletins, posters, rules, and relevant legislation.
  • Coordinate transportation for injured employees to medical facilities.
  • Maintain relationships with emergency services and healthcare providers.
Position Reports to: Project Sponsor

SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, QUALIFICATIONS, AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Degree in Safety Management, Environmental Science, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
  • A minimum of 10 years of experience in safety management, including roles in similar safety leadership positions.
  • Familiarity with governmental ES&H standards and the ability to apply them in construction settings.
  • Experience in safe work practices and conducting accident investigations is highly desirable.

CERTIFICATIONS:

  • 10-Hour OSHA, 30-Hour OSHA, First Aid/CPR, OSHA 500, Competent Person Fall Protection.
