MRI Imaging Specialist

As a Magnetic Resonance Imaging Technologist at Kaiser Permanente, you will be responsible for producing high-quality diagnostic images of the human anatomy and vasculature using Magnetic Resonance Imaging equipment. You will work under indirect supervision to perform basic and advanced protocols, utilizing hardware and technical parameters to maximize image quality and acquire images that can be utilized by physicians to diagnose disease processes and pathology.
Key Responsibilities:
- Uphold Kaiser Permanente's policies and procedures, principles of responsibilities, and applicable state, federal, and local laws.
- Observe all applicable Regional, Medical Center, and department policies and procedures.
- Demonstrate an understanding of the cognitive, physical, emotional, and chronological maturation process in delivering services to patients of the age group served.
- Assess data reflective of the patient's status and interpret the appropriate information needed to identify each patient's requirements relative to their age-specific needs.
- Provide care needed in accordance with department policy.
- Document clinical activities in a timely, comprehensive, and accurate manner.
- Maintain standards of professional behavior established to enhance quality of service.
- Demonstrate effective communication skills.
- Demonstrate professional conduct in all interactions with patients and staff.
- Maintain equipment, supplies, and work area in accordance with department guidelines.
Essential Clinical Duties and Responsibilities:
Interview patients to explain magnetic resonance imaging procedures, obtain patient history, and conduct imaging screens. Correlate requested exams with patient history and diagnosis. Position patients as required for requested exams or use variations to ensure proper positioning of patients to the magnet isocenter. Select appropriate coils for requested exams and position coils to demonstrate areas of interest and obtain maximum transmit and receive signal. Select monitoring devices and support equipment as required by patient condition. Obtain optimal MR imaging throughout the entire region of interest by selecting and applying imaging parameters. Perform tuning procedures and utilize appropriate protocols for producing optimal images. Identify and use appropriate planes for a particular exam. Modify protocols as required to produce optimal images. Identify artifacts if present and correct for problems. Recognize the need for additional sequences, changes in protocols, and the need for paramagnetic contrast studies based on patient pathology, physical condition, or image quality problems.
Differentiate normal anatomy and normal variations in appearance in planes from abnormal conditions to make associated changes in imaging. Apply special applications of MR such as contrast agents/studies, MR angiography, MR interventional, magnetization transfer imaging (MTI), echo planar, spectroscopy, maximum intensity projection, cine, and perfusion/diffusion imaging. Enter specific data such as patient history, anatomical area to be scanned, and orientation specified into the computer. Key commands to specify scan sequences into the computer and adjust transmitters and receivers. View images of the area being scanned on video display screens to ensure image quality. Film scan results utilizing a laser camera or photograph images and process film.
