POSITION OVERVIEW

The Cytology Specialist plays a crucial role in advancing innovative methodologies, ensuring quality standards, and providing expert guidance on the proper utilization of cytology specimens as well as the interpretation of slides derived from these specimens. This position involves a comparative analysis with Pap testing methodologies and results, alongside a thorough review of slide staining processes.

This role is integral in directing product development efforts to achieve optimal performance, collaborating closely with Pathologists, and contributing to Quality Control (QC) method development for cytology specimens.

Key Responsibilities

- Conduct analytical techniques on specimens sourced from various origins, including cervical swabs, sputum, urine, other bodily fluids, and fine needle aspirates.

- Assess incoming samples for testing eligibility.

- Evaluate immunocytochemistry (ICC) biomarkers for proof of concept, feasibility, and validation studies related to new product development.

- Execute and assess cytology techniques such as Pap staining, delivering results to project scientists.

- Maintain necessary records and documentation.

- Propose enhancements to existing work processes.

- Perform root-cause analysis and implement corrective actions for any reagent or instrument-related issues encountered during sample processing.


QUALIFICATIONS

To excel in this role, candidates must meet the following qualifications:

Education
- Bachelor’s Degree in Biological Sciences or a related discipline. REQUIRED
- Graduation from a CAAHEP accredited cytotechnology training program. REQUIRED
Experience
- Minimum of 7 years in Cytology, encompassing cytology techniques and methodologies. REQUIRED
- Experience in a laboratory environment. REQUIRED
- Gynecological experience is preferred.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Proficient understanding of clinical testing methodologies.
- Ability to collaborate effectively with both internal and external colleagues.
- Familiarity with light microscopy principles, standard laboratory equipment operation, and computer proficiency.
- Strong organizational, problem-solving, and analytical skills, with the ability to adhere to written procedures and maintain accurate documentation.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Capability to work independently and within a cross-functional team.
- Proficient in troubleshooting and making informed assessments.

Licenses and Certifications
- Cytotechnologist (CT) certification from the American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) is REQUIRED.
